- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2015I was looking for a low profile AC router. I have tried other brands like Asus and D-Link. None of them came even close to this one.
The setup is super easy that you can even use your iphone or ipad to do the initial setup.
The web interface offers the same similar menu as previous Netgear routers.
If you have used Netgear routers before, configuration is not a problem for you. I literally completed the configuration and had the network up and running in 10-15 minutes. uPNP and port forwarding works as usual.
This is the AC router supporting both 2.4GHz and 5 GHz bands. I have more than 15 wireless devices connected to the router. I used the old SSID on the 2.4GHz for the legacy devices and move the new devices to 5GHz with new SSID. All legacy devices were able to connect to the router without reconfiguration.
The speed is definitely faster than my old Netgear WNR2000v2. I got ~ 60Mb/s downlink on 5GHz versus 50Mb/s running on 2.4GHz using WNR2000. I think it is the limit of my cable service.
The wireless coverage is pretty good. I don't get much speed reduction(5-10%) in my bedroom which is far away from where the router is. I used to get 50% reduction when I used the WNR2000v2.
It has Gigabit Ethernet interface. I can see the LED color changed on my cable modem. I have not tested the USB yet. So far the router is working like my old Netgear router: reliable and fast.
Just one little thing that I had to download the new FW file to my PC then upload to the router. The one-step webGUI upgrade did not go anywhere. However, it is not a big deal just you have to fire up the PC versus just use your iphone or ipad to do it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2016This unit solved my LinkSys WRT54G drop out problems. I had a little trouble at first with the Genie App - the instructions do not spell out the password protocol for accessing the App's suite of features: Selecting the 'Router Settings' tab pops up a login dialog requiring a password which is actually the default word 'password' not the WiFi SSID Connect password which you might have set using the browser interface BEFORE trying the App - like I did. Duh!! Ended up un-installing the whole thing and starting over using the browser interface only, changed the SSID's and the connection password's - one each for the 2.4GHz channel and one for the 5GHz channel, hooked up and got all devices online and working - so the house network runs at 2.4GHz and the Smart TV's run on the 5GHz channel. Its easier and more efficient to share bandwidth between frequencies, than a frequency between multiple devices - I have plenty of bandwidth and the TV makes better use of the wide open 5GHz broadcast channel (especially since it's the only 5GHz device in the house right now). Then I downloaded the Genie App and figured that out Works pretty well - especially the 'Network Map' monitor - nice touch! And you can custom name all the connectable devices, PC's Laptops, phones, WiFi capable BD and DVD players, and TV's. AND the add-on 'Netgear USB Controller' App that lets you port your old USB printer to the Router and turn it into a virtual WiFi printer server saved me a hundred bucks for a printer upgrade.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2016Love this router! A step up from the bargin bin router I had and worth the money.
I have a 3100 square foot home, 2 levels and a basement. Due to connectivity, this router is on the 2nd level. It's rather light, but I don't touch my router or the kids. If you are worried about durability, this may not be for you.
I get great WiFi upstairs and down. Even on the opposite side of the house. I even get service in the basement. I used the Netgear Genie app to measure the percentage of signal and I can get 70% + anywhere in the house. Not that I care if it works outside, but I will try that out later.
I bought some TP-Link powerline adapters for my Roku boxes and they work fine with this router. I prefer the speed when it comes to video. Using Comcast as the ISP @ 25Mbps. Not blazing fast but enough for me.
3 WiFi networks (2.4GHz, 5GHz, and Guest) and I only broadcast the Guest network. More than I need, but we are going to put parental controls on the 2.4 and let the kiddies use that. USB will have to get explored, but a lot of router for not a lot of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice basic router
Router connected to 100 Mbps broadband
Works well
Not using USB ports / UPNP , no comments
Pro
Able to produce 80Mbps on WAN
Cost
Gigabit lan ports
5Ghz: note 5ghz band works only when you are in close proximity and is used for higher data transfer speeds than 2.5ghz for copying files etc.
Range slightly better than average router coverage
Can be used as an access point from advanced settings menu
Switch to turn off wifi signal
Cons
Biggest Blunder realised very late, do not use to connect this as a wired access point vi WAN port in software settings speed drops to 50mbp/s, instead plugin cable to LAN port and set DHCP to off , same SSID and Password and different IP from base router speed jumps to maximum possible
Breadbox looks
Interface poor compared to Asus
Overall very happy with purchase , recommended
NOTE: Pics shows speed on speedtest , this is being used as a wired access point via LAN port from Netgear D6300 router

4.0 out of 5 stars Good router for a small home.
Had to buy this router as this the cheapest one available with a gigabit switch for WAN to LAN conversion. Most of the routers in the market have switch that support theoretical maxima of 100 megabit although they might be marking up their speed as 150, 300 or 750 Mbps. So if you have 100 Mbps connection and wondering why the speed is only 40 Mbps, like me, then mostly your router is the bottle neck. With a YOU Broadband 100 Mbps connection at Hyderabad it constantly gives speed in the range of 90 Mbps over wifi (5GHz band) for both uploads and downloads. Video download form you tube happens at 10 MBs/sec. Ready share also works fine with USB 2.0 port at 8 MBs/second transfer speed. Overall a good 1200 ac gigabyte router. Most devices in my home recognizes 5GHz band so using that as compared to crowded 2.4 GHz band to get better speed. Very easy setup and Netgear genie app can be used for most of the interactions with the router. So far i have connected six devices simultaneous with the router without any problem.
Cons.
1) 5 GHz signal range is less (Usable only withing 10 m radius for cell phone which inherently has weak wifi receivers).
2) With gigabyte LAN and ac wifi capability Netgear should have provided usb 3.0 instead of 2.0 for connecting external storage to the router. This is a major drawback.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Poor WiFi Range
The router is Good though, the Wi-Fi range is extremely poor as if it doesn't have Wi-Fi. My basic Netgear D1500 modem have 10 time better range than this router. But still I bought it to install OpenWRT. It has 125 MB RAM and 125MB Flash memory. Best in this category and at this price. If you are ok with the poor Wi-Fi signals, this is a great router.
OpenWRT latest version is supported and it is much better than the stock firmware and the useless Genie app.
4 LAN ports and 1 USB port is more than sufficient.
I got it for 2750/-.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product, great WiFi Options allows you 2 bands- ...
Good product, great WiFi Options allows you 2 bands- 2.4ghz and 5 ghz on both in-house and Guest Wifi networks ( You can basically set up 4 independent Wifi networks. Range is poor, despite being put in prominent and clear location the signal tends to be medium and also fluctuates a good bit. Not all devices can connect to the high speed 5 Ghz (Close range) networks so beware of older WiFi devices, they will need to be on the 2.4 ghz connection. Overall the performance dips when channeled through this router... Directly via LAN I get around 100 mbps connectivity when the LAN is passed through this router the speeds dip to around 54 mbps and 70 Mbps. So not exactly as efficient as the manufacturer claims. Looks wise, the product is solid and built of robust plastic with a good finish. Overall it does the job, but perhaps not as efficiently as one is led to believe.
- GenieReviewed in India on September 27, 2019
5.0 out of 5 stars Very good and reliable connection
Provides automatically login to the ISP - ACT installers were able to set it up, but Netgear's online configuration ability is very feature rich and flexible and easy to setup. Automatic login prevents issues with frequently having to login again on the ACT website as I had to do with my older router. Performance also seems excellent.
Wifi signal strength is good, but not so great outside of my room where I placed it - maybe my router placement is not optimal, so you may be able to get a longer distance signal.
